Swansea boss Rodgers blows fuse over Cup humiliation: My worst night in football

Swansea City boss Brendan Rodgers was left fuming over their Carling Cup defeat to Shrewsbury.

Despite taking the lead through a fortunate own-goal, the Premier League new-boys subsided to their League Two hosts in meek fashion.

Marvin Morgan levelled for Shrewsbury before Mark Wright and Nicky Wroe struck in the second-half to send the hosts into round three for the first time in 18 years.

And Rodgers was not happy.

"It is my most disappointing night in football," he said. "We are not good enough to turn up anywhere and win a game at 70 per cent.

"You need the right mindset to do the ugly bits of football.

"I have told the players to make sure they remember the Manchester City game, when they made their Premier League debuts, make sure they remember how well they played against Wigan.

"But don't forget to tell their grandchildren that they played against Shrewsbury and lost. That is the reality. It shouldn't happen."
