Swansea boss Rodgers admits Monk will miss big kickoff

Swansea City boss Brendan Rodgers admits Gary Monk will miss their start of the season.

Rodgers is becoming resigned to being without the defender for the big kick-off next month.

"The likelihood is he may not be fully fit for the beginning of the season," said Rodgers. "It goes back to the end of the season. He'd done remarkably well to play in the play-off final.

"He had injections and all sorts of jabs to get him through and in the off season he's just rested it.

"He can't do much impact work on the field. He's doing the work with the medical team and they're looking after him very well."
