Swansea boss Monk rues inefficient cup performance at Hull - 'It should have been a cricket score'

Swansea City boss Garry Monk was left to rue missed opportunities following the Capital One Cup exit at the hands of Championship club Hull City on Tuesday.

The visitors attempted 18 shots in the game at the KC Stadium but failed to convert any of them as they bowed out to David Meyler's 41st minute goal.

"If we played that game ten times, we would have won nine of them," said the Swans boss.

"We had so many chances in the first half that it could have been a cricket score.

"It was the classic situation where you leave yourself open to that sucker punch.

"We played some excellent football and carved them open at will but couldn't take the chances that our football deserved.

"We should have been clearly in front, but our finishing lacked a little bit of composure and then they got the goal from one of their only attacks.

"They dropped deep in the second half, and we didn't quite reach the levels that we reached in the first half and couldn't break them down.

"I wanted to make a tactical change in the second half but wasn't able to because Franck (Tabanou) had to come off due to cramp. We wanted to get Jeff (Montero) on to give us that width and stretch them.

"It didn't go for us tonight, but we've proven what a good attacking team we are. We've created chances, but we just need to finish them off."
