Swansea City boss Garry Monk hopes Jonjo Shelvey can learn from his red card against Everton.
Swans were able to hold on for a point on Saturday, despite Shelvey's dismissal.
"I don't want to be harsh on Jonjo because he's a good lad, a good person," said Monk.
"He's playing well for us, but he has to cut out the sloppy and silly bookings like the one for kicking the ball away. We've all got passion and commitment, but you have to be clever in your mind. You play with intensity, but you play with a cool head.
"He has to learn very quickly from it. He knew straight away at the end. In the changing room he was disappointed, but he has to learn quickly in this game, especially at this level.
"The situation seems to be at the moment that we are always running the risk of getting that second yellow which we did. The first one really cost us dear."
