Swansea boss Monk excited working with Nelson Oliveira potential

Swansea City boss Garry Monk is confident they can help Nelson Oliveira return to his best form.

The Swans have confirmed the signing of the Benfica frontman on a six-month loan deal until the end of the season.

"Back a few years Nelson was up and coming and linked with some big clubs. For whatever reasons things did not quite pan out," said Monk. "Possibly he does feel he's lost his way. It can be difficult for young players. You are in and out of manager's plans. Sometimes your face fits and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it's not even about the football.

"For whatever reasons Nelson has not had that run or that look in, but speaking to him he sounds very hungry. The desire is certainly there and the commitment and it's going to be interesting to see how he does over the coming months. He brings quality and it is my job to get it out of him.

"We do background checks on all the players, see what personality they are. He's a very good guy as well. I spoke to him. I spoke to people who know him. Maybe managers so far have not drawn things out of him this could be the chance to show what he's goy and prove a point to himself and to us. I'm here to help him and we can produce a good player. "
