Swansea City boss Michael Laudrup believes David Moyes was always Manchester United's long-term choice to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson.

Laudrup takes his Swansea side to Old Trafford today in the hope of wrecking United boss Ferguson’s final home game in charge before his end-of-season retirement.

He said: “I can’t talk too much about things I don’t know but the fact United gave Moyes six years gives a signal to everybody that he was their first choice.

“It says the club believes in him, so they give him six years and not two.”
