Swansea boss Guidolin: Britton influence now crucial

Swansea City boss Francesco Guidolin says keeping hold of Leon Britton has been crucial for the new season.

The Welsh club are looking for a new skipper after Ashley Williams joined Everton, and manager Guidolin is set to turn to veteran midfielder Britton at Burnley today.

'When Leon plays he will usually be captain and he is very important for this squad, for this club and this city," Guidolin said.

“He is not a big man, but he has a big heart. I travelled to our friendly against Wolves with him in his car and he told me about his time here and what it meant to him.

“It is unbelievable to go from the bottom division to the top in only 10 years and he is part of this unique history.

“He is a nice guy, and players like he and Angel Rangel are very important for us without Ashley."
