Swansea boss Curtis praises 500-gamer Britton

Leon Britton is set to make his 500th appearance for Swansea City on Wednesday.

The 33-year-old midfielder will achieve the milestone when Sunderland come to the Liberty Stadium for the midweek Premier League fixture, which has received adulation from caretaker manager Alan Curtis.

"From the day he came here he's been an inspiration to everyone and whenever he plays the team is a better team," Curtis told Swansea's official website.

"He stops danger at source, he's played a massive part in our rise through the divisions and full credit to him."

Britton first joined the Welsh club on loan from West Ham United in 2002 before joining permanently the following year.

The Arsenal youth product had a brief spell with Sheffield United in 2010/11 prior to his return to South Wales in January 2011.

Britton is one of just a few to have played in all four tiers of the Football League with the Swans.
