Chris Sutton sees his appointment as Lincoln City manager as the first step to working in the Premiership.
The former Blackburn and Chelsea striker, 36, is facing a big challenge with the Imps fifth from bottom of League Two after losing six of their last seven games.
But Sutton, who will have former Rovers team-mate Ian Pearce as No 2, said: "I understand people will be sceptical about my lack of experience, but Alex Ferguson started somewhere, so did Martin O'Neill. Eventually I want to manage in the Premier League."
Sutton replaces Peter Jackson who was sacked earlier this month and chairman Stef Wright said: "It's a gamble but we believe Chris is going to deliver."
