Sunderland fullback Paul McShane has spoken of his controversial dismissal at Arsenal last week for a last-minute lunge at Aleksandr Hleb.

He said: "It was the last minute of the game and I just went into a tackle - before I went into it, I just said I'm going in all the way here, that I wasn't holding back.

"It looked worse on the telly, I was going for the ball and people thought I had come through with my knee. It was just the way he collapsed when I came through, but there was no intent there to hurt the player, and it's going to be very frustrating now to sit out those three games.

"It's strange not being part of the build-up to the game. The whole sitting in the stand and not being in the dressing room, not getting that feeling before the game, it's disappointing. I think I fell out with all my family the last time I was suspended, so they know how frustrated I get."
