Sunderland boss Roy Keane is adamant he would walk away from the club if he did not have complete control over transfer dealings.

"I decide who is coming in and who is going," he told the Sunday Mirror.

"I made it clear before I came in that any sort of interference and I wouldn't last two seconds.

"I demand total freedom to run the club exactly the way I want.

"I think it has to be the case at any club that the manager decides which players the club signs, but I am sure that is not the case at every club.

"If I was told we were signing a certain player that the club had decided, I would be out of the door. I would be off in a taxi - I would have to leave the company car behind.

"One or two managers have told me stuff I couldn't believe.

"Interference, getting phone calls on a Monday morning - 'Why did this happen? What did that happen?'

"People say chairmen have a right to ask. You have to answer to people, don't get me wrong, but if Niall Quinn was down here every day, checking everything out, I certainly wouldn't be happy.

"The managers I played under, Alex Ferguson and Brian Clough, wouldn't tolerate anything like that and maybe that's why they were successful.

"I've brought players in and gone against everything the staff and scouts have told me, but that's why I'm the manager."
