Sunderland's Anderson out three months

Sunderland defender Russell Anderson has been ruled out for three months after undergoing ankle surgery.

Anderson, a £1million summer signing from Aberdeen, has had an operation to repair ligaments damaged during the Carling Cup defeat at Luton last month.

Boss Roy Keane told the club's official website: "Russell has had an operation to reconstruct his ankle ligaments and will be out for a while."
