Sunderland winger Johnson not giving up on England recall

Sunderland winger Adam Johnson isn't giving up on an England recall.

Johnson impressed for Sunderland in their 2-2 draw with Tottenham on Saturday.

Speaking to Ian Wright on his Absolute Radio Saturday show, he said of England: "I'll never give up hope. I've said this loads of times, playing for my country was the best thing I did.

"Playing at Wembley, there's nothing better than that. I think last season when I won player of the month and scored all of those goals, I thought, I couldn't have done any more. I think that got me down a little bit you know because there were players in the squad who didn't even play a game that month.

"So I was obviously a little bit disappointed, but I've just got to try and get on with it and try to prove to people that I should be given a chance again."
