Sunderland winger Emanuele Giaccherini has paid tribute to former club Juventus.

Giaccherini left Juve this summer for Wearside.

"I spent two wonderful years with Juventus," the 28-year-old said.

"I went from Cesena to winning the championship with Juve, becoming a vice-champion of Europe with the national team and also playing the Confederations Cup in Brazil.

"Now I'm also being given the opportunity to meet the Pope…

"I was sorry to leave Juve, but there was this opportunity of joining Sunderland and together we decided it was a good thing for me."
