Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is desperate to close a deal for Wigan Athletic fullback Maynor Figueroa.
The Daily Star says Wigan have slapped a £7m fee on the 26-year-old Honduras left-back, which is above Bruce's valuation.
But Latics chief Roberto Martinez is an admirer of midfielder Kieran Richardson and an exchange deal is possible.
