Sunderland are keen on Fulham boss Roy Hodgson.
The People says Hodgson has not had any contract talks with Craven Cottage chairman Mohamed Al Fayed, despite saving the club from relegation in miraculous fashion last year and steering them to mid-table this term.
The former Inter Milan manager's current deal runs until the end of next season.
Sunderland admit they are considering appointing a more experienced manager in the summer in place of Ricky Sbragia.
And Hodgson, 61, could prove a more attractive proposition than Sven Goran Eriksson, the man who pipped him to the England job back in 2001.
