Sunderland watch as Eriksson agent admits Premier League hopes

The agent of sacked Mexico coach Sven Goran Eriksson says the Swede would welcome a return to the Premier League.

The former Manchester City manager has been linked with Sunderland and Athole Still said: "I personally never wanted him to take the job.

"I knew and had been warned that it's just a hot-house of politicising."

Still added: "I would think there will be plenty of offers for him.

"He would love to work in England again, I know that for a fact. I would say yes, his first choice would be a good Premier League club in England where he has a challenge. That would be his choice, I'm quite sure."

Eriksson himself admitted his sadness at not being able to coach Mexico in South Africa next summer.

"From a personal point of view I regret it, since I like the job," he said. "I like the whole country. I like its people.

"The president told me today that the reasons for my sacking were the results abroad and I can't argue against that.

"We've lost two games in this qualifying round against the USA and Honduras. That's how things stand.

"I understand that sooner or later the patience of your people and the federation would end. I feel sad because I always thought I'd be sitting on Mexico's bench at the World Cup."
