Sunderland veteran Jermain Defoe is backing Sam Allardyce for the England job.
Allardyce, who was interviewed for the role in 2006, guided Sunderland to Premier League safety last season, in part thanks to Defoe's 15 goals.
He has been mentioned again as a candidate after Roy Hodgson's resignation.
Defoe told BBC Sport: "Last season he said to us, 'do you know what? I don't care how we play, as long as we win'.
"Obviously I hope he stays at Sunderland. Maybe he could do both (jobs)?"
