Former Chelsea and AC Milan goalkeeper Marco Amelia has joined Sunderland for trials.

Amelia is off contract from Chelsea and Spotitalia says he has been handed trials by Sunderland boss David Moyes.

Moyes needs to find a new senior keeper after losing Vito Mannone to a serious elbow injury a fortnight ago.

The summer transfer window shut with Sunderland failing to find a replacement.

Amelia is now trialling with the Black Cats, though also has interest from ChampionshipNottingham Forest.
