Sunderland are eyeing Tottenham midfielder Steven Pienaar.

The Sunday Sun says the Black Cats are on the lookout for a natural left-winger and South Africa international Pienaar, who has failed to hold down a regular place at White Hart Lane, where Gareth Bale is an automatic choice, fits the bill.

But new Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill insists he has yet to speak to owner Ellis Short about whether he will have money available to strengthen his squad in the January transfer window.
