Sunderland have opened talks with Tottenham midfielder Tom Huddlestone.

The Mirror says Paolo Di Canio is determined to beef up the Wearsiders' midfield and has made a move for the 6ft 3in Huddlestone, who is frustrated at his lack of games under Andre Villas-Boas.

However, ex-Black Cats boss Steve Bruce is also interested in striking a deal to take the 26-year-old to newly-promoted Hull City.
