Sunderland have opened talks with Manchester United midfielder Kieran Richardson.

The People says Stadium of Light chief hopes to land the 22-year-old for £3million to strengthen the left side of his team as they rejoin the Premiership.

Richardson can fill in at left-back or left-midfield and that versatility appeals to Roy Keane, who will have a new-look back four next season.
