Sunderland are set to swoop on Sheffield United defender Matthew Kilgallon.

Black Cats boss Steve Bruce has upped the ante on trying to lure the 26-year old to the Stadium of Light and is trying to push through £1.5million deal today.

If successful, Bruce will pinch Kilgallon from under the noses of Everton who seemingly had him wrapped up for a summer switch but recent reports suggest Sheffield are allowing him to join Sunderland.

Sunderland have matched Everton's offer but are prepared to deal now which suits the Blades who could do with the transfer fee but ultimately, it will be the players decision.
