Sunderland are awaiting news on the hamstring injury picked up by defender Anton Ferdinand during the friendly game at Leicester. Ferdinand is likely to undergo an assessment of his injury this week.
Meanwhile winger Andy Reid is "progressing well" with rehabilitation on an achilles injury, according to club medical chief Dr Glen Rae.
Reid, who last featured in the friendly against Munster last month, has struggled with injury since his move to Wearside in January 2008, and missed much of last term with a calf problem.
