Sunderland have suspended Darron Gibson after he was charged with drink driving.
The Mirror says the former Manchester United and Everton man was arrested on Saturday after his £75,000 Mercedes car allegedly smashed into multiple parked cars.
Images on social media showed Gibson speaking to police officers and Northumbria Police confirmed a 30-year-old man had been arrested.
Sunderland have launched an investigation and suspended Gibson with immediate effect.
Chief executive, Martin Bain said: “We expect the highest standard of behaviour from our players and should any individual fall short of those standards then robust action must be taken."
