Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan says they were punished for not taking their chances in derby defeat to Newcastle United.
The Black Cats created plenty of attacking opportunities in the opening period but couldn't breach Tim Krul's goal and Taylor handed the visitors the points after the break.
"I feel down right now because we have disappointed the fans," Gyan told safc.com. "We had a good first half but we didn't take our chances.
"We knew we had to be careful at set pieces and we've been punished.
"In the first half we should have had a couple of goals, so of course it is disappointing to have lost the game."
Gyan added: "We did everything to try and hit the back of the net in the first half but it didn't happen, and we've been punished for our mistakes in the end.
"We will go away and learn from those mistakes and come back stronger."
