Sunderland striker Gyan defends Al Ain loan switch

Al Ain loan signing Asamoah Gyan has defended his departure from Sunderland.

Steve Bruce has made it clear that he sees no future for Gyan at the Stadium of Light, having been stunned by the Ghana international's desire to go out on loan just a year after arriving at the club for £13million.

Gyan has now defended his actions by claiming that Sunderland were happy for him to leave as it was a good deal for everybody concerned, while he says there is no rift with Bruce.

"I did not have any problem with Steve Bruce. He is a great coach and he has always supported me," said the 25-year-old.

"People say I moved because of money.

"You need to be happy - although I'm not saying I wasn't happy at Sunderland or I wasn't happy in the Premier League.

"I had to decide with my family and everything and they were alright with my decision so I had to just move.

"It helped myself and Sunderland as well. Everyone was happy with the loan, and to be honest if Sunderland were not happy as well they could have not loaned me because I have a contract with them.

"I think the three parties were happy to do the deal."
