Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe says he gets along with Newcastle United fans.

Even though on the pitch the two clubs are deadly rivals, even Newcastle supporters seem to be warming to the Sunderland star.

Defoe told The Sun: “I do a lot of walking around the Metro Centre in Newcastle their fans are fine.

“They have a laugh about it. I want to be as normal as anyone else. If I see someone in a Newcastle shirt, of course I say 'hi'. Sometimes they even say 'hi' back ."
