Sunderland striker Jermaine Defoe has admitted his delight at receiving a recall to the England national team.
The 34-year-old, who was impressed for the Black Cats this season, was handed a spot in the Three Lions squad by Gareth Southgate for the upcoming games against Germany and Lithuania.
Southgate would be without the services of Harry Kane, Daniel Sturridge and Wayne Rooney due to injuries, and Defoe is set to be given an opportunity more than three years after last representing his country.
Defoe tweeted “It's good to be back" in the acknowledgement of his recall.
