Sunderland striker Bent intent on winning World Cup spot

Sunderland striker Darren Bent is intent on winning a spot in Fabio Capello's World cup squad.

The 25-year old, who signed for the Black Cats from Tottenham in the recent transfer window, won his last cap for England in November last year but believes he has enough to offer for a call-up prior to South Africa 2010.

"I definitely feel I have something to add. The moment I stop thinking that, I might as well stop playing football because the ambition will be gone. Hopefully, it will come," he said.

"Its still a massive ambition, but at the same time I know its going to be difficult to get back in.

"He (Capello) seems to have his four or five strikers set, but if I can score a lot of goals, that should help me upset the system a bit. If that's the case, there's no saying where I can go.

"I'm always confident I can a score a lot of goals. I've started off this season with a couple already, and if I can score a few more, that can only help my international ambitions.

"My number one goal is to hold down a place in the Sunderland team and do well for them. If I do that, the England honours will come."
