Sunderland stopped Ashley from buying round for 2,500 Newcastle away support

Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley was stopped from buying a beer for all of the Toon's travelling support at last week's draw at Sunderland.

The People says Ashley joined the Toon Army on the Stadium of Light terraces after being told he wouldn't be allowed to wear his replica jersey in the directors' box.

And he hoped to get the beers in for every one of his 2,500 pals in the cheap seats.

Arch-rivals Sunderland, however, told him they would not be able to cope with the demand and the local police feared it could compromise spectators' safety.
