Sunderland still to draw up manager shortlist

Sky Sports reports that Sunderland have yet to draw up a shortlist of contenders to replace sacked boss Paolo Di Canio. Kevin Ball has taken temporary charge of the Black Cats, who are back in action on Tuesday night when they will play host to Peterborough in the Capital One Cup.

Reporter Keith Downie added on Sky Sports News: "There had been a news conference scheduled for 1.15 this afternoon ahead of that game but that has been cancelled, so we won't hear from anyone at the club ahead of tomorrow's match.

"Sunderland have a hectic schedule coming up. They are at home to Liverpool on Sunday, then Manchester United visit the Stadium of Light. The Black Cats then go to Swansea before the Tyne-Wear derby at home to Newcastle.

"It would have been hard for Paolo Di Canio to turn things around."
