Sunderland are closing in on Wigan Athletic fullback Maynor Figueroa.
The Daily Mail says with Wigan making an offer for Sporting Gijon left-back Roberto Canella, the door is now open for Sunderland to land Figueroa.
Although Wigan are reluctant to sell in January they know Sunderland are interested in the left back, who they rate in the £6 million class.
