Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is ready to slap in an offer for Wigan Athletic fullback Maynor Figueroa.

The Sun says Bruce was Wigan chief when he brought the Honduran left-back to England.

Figueroa, 26, is rated at £4million but his value could soar because of his 60-yard strike against Stoke last Saturday.

Bruce needs defensive reinforcements as he is willing to listen to offers for Anton Ferdinand.
