Sunderland signing Rodwell insists he's no injury risk

Sunderland signing Jack Rodwell insists he's no injury risk.

Rodwell barely played during a miserable two-year stint at the Etihad Stadium and while he admits knee and hamstring problems blighted his first campaign after leaving Everton, the midfielder insists he was fighting fit last term.

"I was probably injured less than pretty much any other member of the City squad," said Rodwell, who plays his second game for the Black Cats against Udinese today after making his debut in Thursday's 2-0 win over Real Betis.

"I think over the course of the whole season, I was injured for about three weeks.

"That will surprise quite a lot of people because when they didn't see my name on the team-sheet, they thought I must be injured.

"I did have a few injuries in my first year there, but I was available for 47 out of 57 games last season."
