Robbin Ruiter is set to undergo a medical with Sunderland on Wednesday.
The Dutch goalkeeper was released by Utrecht at the end of last season and is expected to sign a two-year deal, according to Sky Sports.
Ruiter is being brought in as a replacement for Jordan Pickford, who moved to Everton for £30m at the start of the summer.
The 30-year old made 137 Eredivisie appearances in his five years with Utrecht.
