Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has revealed the Black Cats could sign Paraguay international Cristian Riveros in the next week. The 27-year-old midfielder has been on Bruce's radar for two years and are close to agreeing a deal with his club, Cruz Azul.

Bruce failed in an earlier bid to land Riveros but is hopeful of making him the first summer signing at the Stadium of Light.

"We are close, we are very, very close," he said.

"I wouldn't be surprised if we can get him in the next week or so."
