Sunderland’s Larsson, Blackburn’s Olsson on target as Sweden down Finland

Sebastian Larsson maintained his good recent club form with Sunderland by scoring in Sweden’s 2-1 Euro2012 qualifying win over Finland this evening.

The Black Cats midfielder fired home Kim Kallstrom’s eighth minute cross from 12 yards to give his side the lead in Helsinki before Blackburn Rovers winger Martin Olsson added a second in the 52nd minute from close range.

Finland’s Joona Toivio, who plays for Djurgarden in Sweden, gave the home side hope when he pulled one back in the 73rd minute but in the end it was not enough to deny the Swedes qualification for at least the play-offs for the 2012 European Championships.

The victory helped wrap up a top-two finish in Group E for Sweden who are now on 21 points, three clear and with plenty of goal difference on third-placed Hungary, whilst Holland are three points clear on top with a game in hand prior to their top-of-the-table meeting in Solna on Tuesday.
