Sunderland striker Kenwyne Jones will remain at the club despite Tottenham's best efforts to sign the player.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has conceded defeat that the Trinidad and Tobago star will remain under the tutorage of Ricky Sbragia at the Stadium of Light.
"There's nothing we can do, basically," said Redknapp.
"The chairman tried to do a deal. I think he spoke to Niall Quinn (Sunderland chairman) on quite a few occasions, but if there's no deal there's no deal.
"That'll be the end of that one.
"We are still looking round but it's not easy," added Redknapp. "It's very difficult signing players in the January window. We'll see what comes up."
