Adam Johnson has had to withdraw from the England squad for upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine.
The 25-year old winger, who joined Sunderland from Manchester City last week, has pulled out with a thigh injury joining Andy Carroll and Wayne Rooney on the sidelines.
Johnson underwent a scan on Wednesday with the results prompting the Football Association to send him back to his club for further treatment.
