Sunderland defender Modibo Diakite will have a medical with Fiorentina prior to signing a loan deal with the Italians according to Sky Sports.

The French centre-back joined the Black Cats from Lazio this past summer but has struggled to make an impact on Wearside.

It is of the belief that Diakite will spend the remainder of the campaign with Fiorentina before reassessing his future at the end of the season.
