Sunderland defender Modibo Diakite is believed to be a January transfer target for Genoa.
Reports suggest the Italian club are seeking a loan deal for the 26-year old French-born Senegalese centre-back who only joined the Black Cats from Lazio in the summer.
Sunderland are close to signing Argentine central defender Santiago Vergini from Estudiantes La Plata which would pave the way for Diakite's return to Serie A.
