Sunderland have received a boost in their bid for Cardiff City midfielder Jordan Mutch.
The Evening Chronicle says Sunderland are still in the race to sign Mutch after Queens Park Rangers' £5m bid was rejected by Cardiff City.
The Black Cats had a £3.5m bid for the midfielder turned down earlier this summer and were expected to return with an improved offer, however that has not happened.
But Cardiff have turned down a QPR bid too, which means the door remains open for the Black Cats if they are prepared to better that offer.
