Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has recalled goalkeeper Trevor Carson from Bury.
Carson, who let in nine goals in eight games at the League One club, is back at Sunderland after the serious facial injury to Simon Mignolet.
Mignolet broke his nose during Saturday's 2-2 draw with Aston Villa and boss Bruce has been unable to sign a stopper on an emergency loan.
It means rookie Carson, 23, will provide back-up to Keiren Westwood, as Craig Gordon is still out with a knee injury.
