Sunderland are set to deal in free agent James McFadden.

The Scotland international has impressed Martin O'Neill while on trial in the north west and looks set to be offered terms.

McFadden watched Sunderland beat Wigan in the recent Premier League match at the Stadium of Light.

Speaking afterwards, O'Neill, who was only able to register 21 of the 25 said: "We'll see how it goes but he has done well and we'll talk."
