Sunderland push Wolves to sell Fletcher

Sunderland hope to land Wolves striker Steven Fletcher.

The Sunday Mirror says Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill is ready to make his move for Wolves' £10million-rated striker Fletcher.

The Black Cats boss now has the go-ahead from chairman Ellis Short to bid for the Scot, following the completion of Asamoah Gyan's permanent switch to UAE outfit Al Ain .

The Gyan deal meant Sunderland banked another £6m from the departure of their £13m club record buy and, with high-earning Arsenal loanee Niklas Bendtner off the wage bill, cash has been freed up for O'Neill to step up his interest in Fletcher.
