Sunderland are pushing to prise Adam Johnson away from Manchester City.

The Sunday Sun says Sunderland retain an interest in Johnson, who could be on his way out of the Etihad Stadium.

Johnson was born in Sunderland and almost joined the Black Cats when he left Middlesbrough in January 2010, until the lure of a massive pay rise at City proved too hard to resist. Now it seems that City are ready to let the 24-year-old go, which has alerted Sunderland.
