Sunderland are on the verge of sealing a £5million double swoop for Argentina right-back Marcos Angeleri and Belgium Under-21 goalkeeper Simon Mignolet. Black Cats manager Steve Bruce turned his attentions to £3million-rated Angeleri after being put off by Tottenham's refusal to lower their £9million asking price for Alan Hutton.
The 27 year old boasts almost 200 appearances for Argentine Primera Division side Estudiantes and was a surprise omission from Diego Maradona's World Cup squad.
Mignolet will provide back-up to first-choice goalkeeper Craig Gordon next season after Sunderland agreed a fee thought to be around £2million with Belguim's St-Truidense.
