Sunderland senior players want a British manager to arrive as Paolo di Canio's successor.

The Telegraph says senior players in the Sunderland squad want the club's next head coach to be British and are hoping that caretaker manager Kevin Ball is given the job.

There is significant support for Ball, who takes charge of Sunday's Premier League match at home to Liverpool, yet he is not expected to be considered by the club's hierarchy.
