Sunderland plan a shock approach to Aston Villa for Charles N'Zogbia.

N'Zogbia has not had the best of starts in the Midlands and Bruce is keeping an eye on the situation before deciding whether to make a bid in the new year, says the People.

Sunderland are short of a regular left-back or left-winger and the former Newcastle player can play in both roles.

A Wearside source said: "Steve Bruce signed N'Zogbia for Wigan and knows he can get the best out of him."
